Nutrition is an essential aspect of life that keeps the current and future generations healthy across the lifespan. The availability of healthy foods is a matter that has been overlooked over the years leading to numerous nutrition-relation illnesses across the world. Nutrition has a profound effect on health as its impact start from the conception of life. Mothers who lack proper nutrition end up delivering sickly offspring. In sub-Saharan Africa, the WHO reported an increase of undernourished people from 181 million in 2010 to 222 million people in 2016. Luckily, organizations across the globe have taken the initiative to address the issue of nutrition including delivering food surplus to communities in dire need of food and water.
Governmental and Non-Governmental Organizations have been at the forefront to see that people are not only sensitized to nutrition facts but also supported with food supplies with a balanced diet. The CDC has played a vital role in supporting NGOs to promote health, wealth, and academic growth across less privileged communities. Children, especially in developing countries have been greatly affected by malnutrition, which in turn affects their education and overall wellness.
UNICEF reported that six million children are affected by life-threatening severe acute malnutrition in West and Central Africa. This calls for more efforts and sensitization to food security and fighting poverty in such regions.
The Life Care Children & Women Empowerment Initiative has worked diligently to fight acute malnutrition in western Africa. Since its conception, LCCWEI has strived to provide food, education, clothing, and medication to the less fortunate. This has been a strategic plan to complement other organizations such as WHO, CDC, and UNICEF, which have adopted measures to make healthy eating easier. The issue of nutrition cannot be fought single-handedly, well-wishers, governments, and NGOs have to come together and spread the love to the malnourished communities by offering healthy food, water, and education to ensure people follow the right practices in nutrition.
