A lot has been said about protecting women and girls from gender inequalities and improving their chances at life. However, women and girls from disadvantaged socioeconomic backgrounds are still highly vulnerable to teenage pregnancies and maternal mortality. Ending maternal mortality and protecting girls in West Africa from teenage pregnancies is an ultimate goal that we hope to achieve.
At the core of Lifecare’s vision and mission is striving to ensure accessibility of maternal healthcare to women of all socioeconomic statuses. Unavailability and inaccessibility of maternal healthcare, especially in rural areas, is quite prevalent in developing countries. Consequently, many women continue to experience health challenges such as fistula. In most unfortunate cases, however, women lose their lives. Stillbirths and infant mortality rates are also extremely high in West Africa.
Lifecare endeavors to be a solution to these challenges in various ways. The initiative is working towards community education on the importance of contraceptives. Lifecare understands that lack of information is a contributing factor to teenage pregnancies. Local communities may also have misconceptions and negative associations that discourage women from accessing these services. Additionally, the inaccessibility of these services is also a leading factor in early pregnancies and maternal mortality. Lifecare strives to ensure that women in rural and disadvantaged areas can access these services at will.
Moreover, through the help of our donors, the Lifecare initiative is working towards ensuring that women can access maternal services beginning from antenatal care, which is crucial towards safe delivery. Through our community volunteers and workers, we have been able to reach women with whom; we walk through their pregnancy journey. The organization also aims and continues to provide nutrition and healthy living education to women. Lifecare recognizes that nutrition is a significant factor contributing to infant health and maternal strength. We hope you can join us and continue supporting us in this journey as we work towards protecting Her.
