On June 26, 2025, Lifecare Children & Women Empowerment Initiative (LCCWEI) took a bold and compassionate step forward in its mission to uplift the most vulnerable in society. With hearts full of purpose and eyes set on sustainable impact, we officially launched the Pilot Phase of the Widow Need Intervention Program—a transformative initiative focused on the economic and emotional empowerment of widows in the Ayobo, Baruwa, and Ipaja communities of Lagos State, Nigeria.
This program is more than just a charity drive—it is a strategic empowerment intervention tailored to meet the financial, emotional, and psychosocial needs of women who have faced the painful loss of their partners and are now left to navigate the challenges of single parenthood, poverty, and economic instability.
Why the Widow NEED Intervention Program?
In many communities across Nigeria and beyond, widows face deeply ingrained socio-economic and cultural challenges. These women often carry the full responsibility of raising children alone while simultaneously struggling to earn an income without adequate support, resources, or opportunities. Some are driven into informal jobs with poor pay, while others are pushed into silence, isolation, or even stigmatization.
LCCWEI’s leadership identified a pressing need: to reach out to widows who are willing to work but lack the capital and skills to start or sustain their small-scale businesses. We believe that financial independence is one of the most dignifying gifts we can offer. Paired with proper training and community support, it becomes a pathway to healing, growth, and resilience.
What the Program Offers
The Widow Need Intervention Program is designed to support 50 widows over the course of 24 months, starting with an initial cohort in Lagos. Each beneficiary will receive:
- Access to Start-Up Capital: Tailored financial support to help jumpstart or scale their micro-businesses.
- Business & Financial Training: Capacity-building workshops in basic bookkeeping, marketing, sales, customer relations, and more.
- Psychosocial Support: Counseling sessions and peer-to-peer support groups that foster emotional healing and community belonging.
- Community Integration: Creating avenues for widows to thrive within their own neighborhoods with the backing of local leaders, faith-based institutions, and LCCWEI volunteers.
A Turning Point for LCCWEI
This new initiative marks a milestone in the journey of LCCWEI. Since our inception, we have been committed to caring for orphans, vulnerable children, and underprivileged women. With the Widow Need Program, we are expanding that vision to embrace widow-led households; ensuring they are not left behind in our mission to build a society where no one is too small to matter.
This is not just a program; it’s a movement to restore dignity to women whose lives have been disrupted by grief and hardship. Through this initiative, we aim to help them regain their footing, rebuild their dreams, and raise the next generation with confidence.
A Word of Gratitude
We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Lucy Evans, our President and Lead Partner, whose unwavering passion for women’s empowerment and community transformation continues to guide and inspire us. Her leadership has turned vision into action and action into hope for many families.
Her commitment reminds us that true leadership is rooted in service, compassion, and long-term impact—the very values that LCCWEI holds dear.
Looking Ahead
As we begin this pilot phase, we are calling on partners, donors, volunteers, and well-wishers to walk with us on this journey. The road ahead will not always be easy, but with collective effort, we can create sustainable change.
We envision a future where these 50 widows—and many more to come—can stand tall, financially stable, emotionally supported, and socially empowered.
This is how LCCWEI builds hope, heals hearts, and empowers women—one widow, one family, one community at a time.
