On March 7, 2025, Lifecare Children & Women Empowerment Initiative (LCCWEI) took a bold step in combating drug abuse among young students through a school outreach awareness program at Ebiere College, Agric Ojo, Lagos, Nigeria. This initiative aimed to educate students on the dangers of the illicit use of drugs, including contraceptives and energy drinks that are often misused for sexual enhancement.
Addressing a Growing Concern
The misuse of drugs among students has become a serious issue, leading to both immediate and long-term health consequences. The accessibility and influence of unprescribed drugs have increased, putting many young people at risk. The outreach program sought to shed light on this pressing concern, providing students with the necessary knowledge to make informed choices about their health and well-being.

Impact of the Awareness Program
Originally planned for 80 students, the program exceeded expectations by reaching over 100 students. This milestone underscores the urgent need for continued intervention in schools. With the help of child protection specialists and Lifecare counselors, students were guided on the risks associated with drug misuse. Alarmingly, many students were already familiar with various contraceptives and energy drinks marketed for sexual performance enhancement, despite being in their early teens.
Commitment to Expanding Outreach
Recognizing the critical importance of early intervention, LCCWEI is committed to reaching more schools across Lagos State and beyond. The more students that receive accurate information and guidance, the less damage is inflicted on the younger generation. By expanding these awareness programs, the organization hopes to foster a culture of informed decision-making and self-protection among students.
Acknowledgment from School Management
The management of Ebiere College expressed deep appreciation for this initiative, recognizing its timely importance in shaping the future of their students. They commended the leadership of LCCWEI for taking proactive steps to educate and protect young people from the dangers of drug misuse.

A Call to Action
The fight against drug misuse among students requires collective effort. Schools, parents, communities, and organizations must work together to protect young minds from harmful influences. LCCWEI remains dedicated to this mission, ensuring that students are equipped with the knowledge and support needed to make responsible choices for a healthier future.
Through continued awareness campaigns and strategic interventions, we can safeguard the well-being of our students and build a stronger, drug-free generation.
